Every teenager wants space and, dare we say, deserves some privacy. Our clients came to us with a request to remodel their basement in Portland, Oregon, and give their teenaged child the hangout any adolescent would want.

With such a fun task, we couldn't wait to implement our basement remodeling services and turn a makeshift bonus room into an epic teen basement hangout for all to enjoy for years to come. This basement remodel was finished with a bedroom, bathroom, and a cozy lounge area, making it the perfect getaway spot or escape with friends. The Creekstone Design + Remodel team approached this project with one goal: to make the space feel like a natural home extension while giving our young client complete creative freedom to bring her vision to life. We used our process to define exactly what the family needed and implement it. 

We set the tone with industrial-style flooring and European frameless cabinetry in cool gray and then finished it off with bright, airy vibes. Picture a white bathtub, clean white tiles, and layered lighting, giving enough light for a quick mirror check.

In the bedroom, a jaw-dropping black-and-white horse mural is a dramatic focal point while cleverly disguising an electrical panel. To further maximize space, we designed a floating desk area tucked beside a structural post, complete with hidden lighting and a magnetic chalkboard, because everyone needs one of those.

We also added built-in shelving, which provides ample storage, making the space as practical as it is stylish. The result is basement improvements that create the ultimate hangout spot for the resident teenager.

A favorite design highlight is the custom wrap-around shower niche, featuring recessed, dimmable LED lighting for both function and ambiance. The bathroom’s modern aesthetic is further enhanced by bold blue glass tile accents extending from the shower to the vanity wall, framing the mirror up to the ceiling.
